Console-vx

The console-vx is designed to work with the verdex family of motherboards.
It provides access to the RS-232 level versions of all 3 serial ports. Looking at the photo above, the serial ports from left to right are:
- STUART (Standard UART): /dev/ttyS2
- FFUART (Full-Function UART): /dev/ttyS0, the console
- BTUART (BlueTooth UART): /dev/ttyS1
The BTUART port has CTS and RTS signals available, the STUART and FFUART ports do not. For more information, see the Gumstix UARTs page.

Modifications
USB Host Mode
In order to support USB Host mode, a ferrite bead should be installed (a short piece of wire could also be used, although this doesn't provide any noise filtering like the ferrite bead would). The bead should be installed in the location to the right of the power jack (see photo above) that is labelled DNI.
Logic Level Serial
It is also possible to get access to logic level version of each serial port through the connectors around the edge of the board. However, in order to use the logic level signals, the appropriate resistors need to be removed. In the photo above, you'll see two large resistors in a square box, just below the center serial connector. One is labelled FF RxD, and the other is labelled ST RxD. Just below the power jack is a similar square box with two more resistors labelled BT RxD and BT CTS.
To use the logic level signals for the FFUART (console), then the FF RxD resistor should be removed.
To use the logic level signals for the STUART (console), then the ST RxD resistor should be removed.
To use the logic level signals for the BTUART (console), then both the BT RxD and BT CTS resistors should be removed.
Revision 1414
Revision 1414 of the console-vx is missing power and ground traces to the RS-232 voltage converter chip. The photo above shows red and blue patch wires which correct this deficiency.
